Dr. D'Cunha's research journey began with the discovery of ISG15, a novel interferon-induced immunomodulatory cytokine. Specializing in minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery, Dr. D'Cunha is an expert in treating lung, mediastinal, and esophageal cancers. His clinical focus extends to complex lung failure cases, including:

• Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
• Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP)

Dr. D'Cunha's passion for medical education has been a constant throughout his career. His achievements in this area include:

• Developing a novel course for medical students transitioning to residency, later adopted by the American College of Surgeons
• Receiving the University of Minnesota Outstanding Medical School Educator award
• Being named the Association for Surgical Education Surgical Educator of the Year in 2011
